The Ziwani School for the Deaf is a boarding public special institution for the Hearing Impaired within the city of Mombasa and managed by the BOG on behalf of the Ministry of Education.
It started in 1971 as a special unit at Ziwani Boys Primary School and it is next to Sparki Primary School with a minimal enrolment of seven day scholars. The School moved to its own site as a full fledged school for the H.I.(hearing impaired) in 1979.
The buildings in the school include 11 classrooms, four dormitories ( two for the boys and two for girls), three toilet units, dining hall and and a kitchen, six staff houses, one of which was gutted by fire in 2004, in addition to the homescience, workshop administration / classroom block, guest house and a staff room.
